It’s time for my first ever foodie gift guide! If you’ve followed along for a while, you know there are two things I’m obsessed with: the outdoors and food. Since I already did my adventurer’s gift guide a couple weeks ago, I thought it might be high time for the food one!
In case you missed my last gift guide and don’t know the rules, here they are:
• There are only 10 items on this list. Keeping it simple!
• Every gift is unisex, meaning you could give it to a guy or girl and he or she will be equally stoked.
• I own every single one of these items and they definitely make my life better and more awesome.
• A couple of these are from smaller shops in SLC because I always believe in buying local! Look for this symbol which will signify a local buy: ℓ
• Most items are also available for purchase on Amazon! Always looking out for you. Here’s the Amazon symbol to watch for: ✩
1. Cheese board ✩
Everyone needs a good cheese board in their life if you ask me. The one we have is a round chalkboard one (I linked a similar one), and I love it because you can write on it and label each cheese. Not that I ever have room to do that because mine is always so packed with deliciousness.
2. Amazon Echo Dot ✩
I love our Echo Dot for many reasons, but its uses in the kitchen seem infinite. Every single day, I tell Alexa to set timers for me, do recipe conversions, play music or a podcast while I’m making dinner, and add things to my grocery list. It’s incredible and honestly I don’t remember life without it. (Bonus tip: I would recommend getting the Dot and then getting a Bluetooth speaker to play music on from it. Don’t get the bigger Echo – the speakers are terrible.)
3. The First Mess ✩
I got this cookbook to use as part of our gallery wall because it fit the color scheme so well – and it turned out to be one of my favorite cookbooks! Laura Wright has a popular blog called The First Mess and this is her first book. All the recipes are plant based but don’t let that turn you away (I’m definitely not vegan or even vegetarian), because it has such yummy, delicious meals. All the smoothies are incredible and I’ve tried some of the salads and dips as well. I’ve loved everything I’ve made from it!
4. Pasta maker ✩
If you remember earlier this year, Colby and I entered into a competition to win a restaurant and we bought this pasta maker to make our dish. It has made so much pasta in its short life and is still like new! It’s the perfect gift for that friend who is adventurous in the kitchen, makes lots of dishes from scratch, and loves to try new things.
If you’ve never heard of a sous vide, it’s basically a kitchen device that you insert into a pot of water and it will keep it at an exact temperature for an extended period of time. Then you seal up whatever you want to cook, drop it into the water, and when your timer is done, you’ll have a perfectly juicy steak or chicken breast. We have the Anova one, which works awesome, but if I were to buy one now I would get the new Chefsteps one because it works with the Amazon Echo!
6. Unique glassware ✩
We all have a friend who is a part of a huge fandom, whether it’s Star Wars, Harry Potter, or Marvel, and chances are you can find a cool mug or glass with that theme. My favorite movie was Star Trek for a long time so I got something similar to this cool glassware and everyone always loves them when I pull them out.
7. Food thermometer ℓ
The trick to cooking meat to the perfect doneness is a thermometer, and this one from Thermoworks is definitely my favorite. It shows the temperature digitally within a second or two and you can know exactly how warm your food is and how close it is to being done.
8. Apron ✩
You can never go wrong with gifting an apron! I love aprons and I feel like I can never have enough. Look around on Amazon for a good one, or if you want to go higher end, the Hedley & Bennett aprons are my absolute favorite. They’re attractive for both men and women, durable, and functional. I got one for Colby a few years ago and he loved it.
9. Candle ✩
One of my favorite things to do is to make dinner and then light a candle as everyone gathers around the table. It helps get rid of that oniony after-dinner scent, but it also brings people together and makes the kitchen feel so homey. My favorite lately is the sugared birch scent from Hearth & Hand at Target. It smells just like Christmas!
10. Salami & cheese ✩ ℓ
Remember that cheese board idea above? Well, you might need some food to fill it with! There’s a local salami brand called Creminelli Meats that I am absolutely obsessed with (you can get it on Amazon or at most Whole Foods), and I love to pair it with this cheddar with caramelized onions from Trader Joe’s. You’ll be the new favorite friend with this gift, that’s for sure.
Which one of these is calling your name, or giving you the perfect inspiration for that foodie friend? Leave a comment and let me know!
