It’s been a hot sec since I’ve done a tour of part of our home! Honestly, I spent the entire summer working on the yard and ignoring the inside of the house, and both areas still have a long way to go. But I did finally put my office together last weekend, so I’m ready to share it even though it’s small!
I’ve been working from home for almost two years now, but only one of those years has been from our current home. Colby and I share an office (I’ll only be showing my side – his still needs a lot of work) and for a while I was unsure if I really wanted to do much with it, but I finally decided it should be a place where I look forward to spending my time. So I spent a couple hours putting the different pieces together and I love how it came out.
My desk is from IKEA (table top and legs), and I really only bought it as a semi-permanent solution when I decided to get a desktop computer instead of a new laptop a couple years ago. We were still in our first apartment, which was pretty small, so I had to get something that would fit in a specific corner. I ended up really liking this simple desk though, so I decided to keep it at least for a few more years instead of upgrading it unnecessarily. My chair is also from IKEA – Colby makes fun of it because he thinks it’s very uncomfortable, but I like it.
The bins underneath are from Target, and just hold some of my paper supplies – a stapler, paper cutter, hole punch, and lots of stationary, stamps, and envelopes. Since my desk doesn’t have drawers, I wanted a cute place to stash all of that, and these do the job nicely.
The ladder next to my desk was originally a purchase I made for a place to hang our Christmas stockings, since we don’t have a fireplace or mantle. When we put our decorations away, I wasn’t sure what to do with it, so I stashed it in the office and liked how it looked. I don’t have anything on it right now, but I’ll probably use it as a place to hang my bag, and I’ll add a blanket or two for chilly mornings.
As far as what’s on my desk, I like to keep it pretty simple. I love plants, so I have a little cactus and an aloe vera plant, both of which I potted over the weekend (hopefully they stay alive). The globe and the ceramic mason jar that holds my pens and scissors are both from Target (I don’t think they have the mason jar anymore, I couldn’t find the link). Right now, I also have a reed diffuser, and when that runs out I’ll switch it out for a candle.
My planner and notepad are essentials if I ever want to get anything done, so they pretty much live on my desk unless I head to work for a meeting. My planner is from Appointed and I’m obsessed with it – probably the best planner I have ever had. The notepad is from QuillandFox on Etsy!
Finally, the calendar hanging above my desk is from Alison’s Year of Awesome by The Alison Show. If you don’t follow Alison yet, you really need to get it together and go check her out. She is behind one of my absolute favorite podcasts, and this year she released these calendars that have monthly themes and weekly challenges to go along with them. One of my main goals this year is to work on myself more, so I decided to get them and follow along. I think they’re still at a lower price until the 12th, so check them out! (This is not sponsored, I truly just love it.)
So there you have it – my office! I’m excited to spend lots more time here now that it’s a space I have truly made my own. What are your essentials in your office? Which rooms of my home would you like to see next?
