Instagram can be daunting. I get it. When I don’t get on there for a few days, or even sometimes a few hours, I get super overwhelmed about the time it will take me to catch up on everything and figure out what to post and when. But at the same time, it has been my favorite social media platform pretty much since it started, so I’m determined to keep it fun and keep falling in love with it.
This year has been a really amazing year on a personal level – it’s been full of so many adventures and firsts for Colby and I, I’ve grown in so many ways, and I have lots of memories that I won’t soon be forgetting.
Today I’m rounding up my favorite posts from the year by category, so grab some hot cocoa and stay a while! Or, if you want to skip to the end, there’s a final update on my bucket list for this year!

Instagram is the ultimate love-hate relationship, am I right? Ask me what my favorite social media platform is and I’ll tell you Instagram without hesitation, but it’s also the one I sometimes avoid for days at a time because it’s so overwhelming and just thinking about it gives me a headache. So today, I’m here to talk everything Instagram tools, even the ones that no one wants to talk about or admit they use.
You guys. I am a podcast addict. Seriously. I listen to them constantly – when I’m getting ready, walking my dog, driving anywhere, cleaning… the list goes on. I shared about my top five favorite podcasts in general on here a long time ago, but since I started working from home, I listen to a lot more business & creativity podcasts instead of just my fave storytelling ones, so I thought I might be due for another list.
I listen to one of these almost every morning before I start working. It helps me make the transition from home to work, since I don’t get that on my commute anymore, and it also helps me get new ideas to use in my job throughout the day or week. So without further ado, here are my favorites! Some of them are very specific and action-based, while others are more big picture, and others are just simply inspiring.
By now, I’m sure you’ve heard about Instagram Stories – you can post photos or videos to your “story” on Instagram and they will stay there for 24 hours for your followers to watch. Sound familiar? It’s because Instagram took this idea directly from Snapchat and used it as their own.
I’ve heard all the arguments about why this is stupid: they shouldn’t rip off Snapchat like this; the stories are an annoying distraction at the top of your Instagram feed; if you wanted to follow all those people on Snapchat, you would, but you don’t want to see everyone’s stories on Instagram; etc. Those things may all be true, but I’m here to tell you that it doesn’t matter how dumb you think Instagram Stories are, because you should be using them. (And I’m guessing once you start, you’ll probably start to like them.)
