Now that Colby and I both have new jobs and such, we work pretty different schedules and rarely both have the same day off that’s not a Sunday. But since Utah has it’s own little holiday known as the 24th of July, when in 1847, Mormon pioneers settled the Salt Lake Valley, we both got the day off and decided to go paddleboarding.
I have been wanting to go paddleboarding forever. We decided not to go when we were in Hawaii since we can go in Utah, but we had never actually gotten around to it. So when I found out we both had the 24th off, I suggested we head out and give it a try.
I called Jordanelle Reservoir that morning to reserve two paddleboards for an hour and we headed out around noon to get there by one. Just getting there was already kind of a disaster… I made at least three wrong turns and accidentally went west instead of east on the freeway. But we made it eventually and got out on the lake.
We paddled around by the shore for a few minutes to get the hang of it, and then Colby suggested we head out farther into the lake. I followed him as he paddled out into the slightly choppier water with the wind at our backs. It was pretty easy. Somehow Colby still fell twice and lost the highly attractive sunglasses I gave him.
