When Colby and I booked our plane tickets to Iceland, the west side of the country wasn’t even on our radar. We were planning our entire trip around hiking Fimmvörðuháls, and we knew we wanted to hit the Golden Circle and the south coast, but when we realized we had a couple extra days, we weren’t sure what to do with them. Of course, then I found out that Kirkjufell was on the Snæfellsnes peninsula, and our decision was made.

Imagine getting together with 3-5 of your best friends and spending 24 straight hours racing around your city doing ridiculous, intimidating, and exhausting challenges. In the morning, you might be high in the mountains, trying to catch a fish with a fly rod, and by the afternoon, you might be performing a choreographed dance on the steps of the state capitol. Sounds pretty crazy, right?

It’s not often that Colby and I make our way down to Utah County together (I go hiking in Provo Canyon all the time myself, but it’s rare for both of us to go), so when we had an open Thursday one week and my friend had a date that lived in Provo, we decided to make it a double and go try out a new escape room!
I absolutely love living in Salt Lake City, and while I love visiting all the well known spots like the Leonardo, Temple Square, and everywhere else I stopped on my recent bus tour, I love finding the “secret” spots too. You know – the ones that not everyone knows about, but the ones that are hidden gems in unexpected places.
A few weeks ago, I finally made it to Capitol Reef for the first time! It’s the least well-known park in Utah, but it’s just as amazing as any of the others. My friend Melissa (pictured in most of my photos) and I only got to spend a day there, but I can’t wait to go back and explore some more! One of the most popular hikes in the park is Hickman Bridge, so it was the perfect spot to check out for a first timer.
