It’s that time of year – the one where we get to start fresh and create brand new goals and bucket lists for the next 12 months. It’s exciting and daunting all at the same time.
This year, my bucket list was a little more difficult to make than the previous two years, because I’ve checked off so many of my big goals. I also try not to put anything on my list that I know I will for sure accomplish (for example, we have a big trip planned for this spring but I already know it will happen, so I didn’t put it on my list). But, I managed to put one together!
I won’t keep you waiting any longer – here’s my 2018 bucket list!
1. Read 30 books.
I always put a book goal on my list because I love reading but I’m really bad about doing it if I don’t hold myself accountable. The past two years, I’ve set 24 books as my goal and I hit it both times, so I thought it might be time for more of a challenge.
2. Eat at a Michelin-starred restaurant.
This is a huge goal, because hello, I live in Utah and there are no starred restaurants anywhere near me. But I’m going to be traveling to one or two cities that do have some this year, so might as well make it happen! Give me suggestions if you’ve been to any!
3. Visit 5 places I’ve never been before.
These could be cities, national parks, beaches, or anything significant. The only things I won’t count are simple things like parks near my house or a restaurant I would have gone to anyway.
4. Make meditation a habit.
I always hear how amazing meditation is and how much it can impact your life, but I never seem to fit it into my day. I went to a meditation class in December though and loved it, so this year I’m determined to do it at least a few times a week.
5. Reach 25K Instagram followers.
This might be another lofty goal, since I worked on 10K for about a year and a half, but I have high hopes that I can do it. If you want to help me out, I’m over at @saltywanders and I post lots of beautiful photos of the outdoors!
6. Hike Kings Peak.
I was trying to think of a big hiking goal to set, and this one came to mind since I have never done it. Kings Peak is the the tallest mountain in Utah (13,528 feet) and requires a 28 mile round trip hike – usually people do it in two or three days. This is a big bucket list item for sure!
7. Grow 3 new foods in my garden.
Last summer, I really got into gardening and I grew bell peppers, three types of tomatoes, and a few different herbs. This year, the plan is to expand the garden by quite a lot and I want to try some kind of squash, more tomatoes, and maybe even raspberries or a fruit tree if Colby will let me.
8. Paddleboard through a slot canyon.
Lake Powell is on the horizon this fall and I really want to find a water sport that I like, since boating/wakeboarding/tubing/etc are not really my thing, much to the chagrin of Colby’s family. I’ve gone paddleboarding a few times and really liked it, so I think it’s time to take one on a bigger adventure.
9. Learn to make a baguette.
Making bread is my nemesis but I’ve always wanted to know how to make a baguette. During the holidays I finally got something to rise successfully for the first time in my life (cinnamon rolls) so now I’m addicted and I must learn.
10. Participate in the Discrete Cirque Series.
I needed one more thing for my bucket list so I was trying to think of a good fitness goal and this race came to mind, so I swallowed my hesitation and put it on. The Cirque Series is made up of six events that are basically trail running races to the top of a ski resort and back down. This sounds absolutely crazy to me, but at the same time it sounds so fun and like something that would be a huge accomplishment, so I’m going to go for it. But I’ll probably only do one of the races – just going to say that now.
So, what’s on your bucket list or list of goals this year? Anything that kind of terrifies you but kind of thrills you? Because that’s the way it should be. I can’t wait to get started on 2018!
